WE ARE NOT SURE WHEN TO PLANT, FARMERS DECRY WEATHER CHANGES

Farmers in Mbarara city are worried over continued seasonal weather changes which has failed them on seasonal timing.

Speaking to our reporter, they say that rains no longer fall in season as it used to be way back in time.

They claim that now they are always confused when to plant due to unreliable weather changes.

Emmanuel Ssempiira a coffee Farmer says that last season he harvested at least 120 bags of coffee and is optimistic that this time round it will be a bumper harvest due to heavy rains received this season.

Vincent Mugabe the Assistant Agriculture Officer Mbarara City says that for the last 5 years weather has experienced drastic changes which has affected farmers amidst other challenges like African Army Worm.

Harriet Nakya a meteorologist at Mbarara City weather station advised farmers to always follow weather expert’s guidance for better planning of their seasons.

Nankya says that for this season farmers should only plant perennial crops as it is already midway.
