In a shocking development that has sent ripples through the community, the deputy LC5 chairperson of Kiruhura District, Adson Atuhaire, 30, now finds himself in Police custody, facing allegations of rape involving a 20-year-old student.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga while addressing journalists yesterday, said the accused, Atuhaire, had crossed paths with the young victim on September 8, 2023, around 2:00 pm.
The encounter took place in Rwentondo, Kakoba Ward, located within Mbarara City, according to Enanga.
Enanga said it all began when the victim, a 20-year-old, had provided directions to the Golden Leaf Bar to Atuhaire and his associates and as the day progressed into the evening, Enanga alleged that Atuhaire reached out to the young woman, extending an invitation for an evening out.
The police mouthpiece adds that Atuhaire picked the lady from her hostel, situated in Kakoba Kyapatoni cell and they embarked on what initially appeared to be a simple errand buying snacks and a drink.
Enanga added that, during their journey back, the suspect deviated from the expected route, leading the unsuspecting victim into a horrifying ordeal and it was along this unexpected path that the alleged rape took place.
The victim later reported the incident to the authorities and the law enforcement promptly sprang into action, apprehending the suspect and impounding his motor vehicle as evidence in the case.
