A joint security team has heavily been deployed around Kyambogo University as more than 9,000 students graduate in a three-day ceremony that kicks off today at the main campus in Kampala.
Among the deployed forces is Uganda Police Force-UPF, local Defense Force Unity – LDU, Army and a private security company contracted to Kyambogo University.
Mission Samuel, the Chief Security Officer of Kyambogo University, yesterday told Endigyito radio that they received information that some people were planning to disrupt the graduation ceremony, and as a result, they had to tighten security at the University.
A total number of nine thousand five hundred and twenty one-9521 students have been successfully approved by Kyambogo University Senate to graduate in the 17th graduation.
Professor Eli Katunguka, the Vice-Chancellor of Kyambogo University revealed that out of 9,521 students 5,074 are Males and 4,447 are females.
The graduation comes a few days after the High Court dismissed a petition by aggrieved students to halt the ceremony because their names were missing on the graduation list.
About 200 students accused the University of omitting their names from the graduation booklet despite having excelled and their names pinned up on the institution’s notice board.
The university chief security officer, however, warned the aggrieved students against disrupting the function today.
