WETlands-2b589a30

The Ndorwa East Member of Parliament, Wilfred Niwagaba, has asked voters in his constituency not to vacate their wetlands until they are compensated by the government.

Niwagaba said this yesterday while addressing voters at Mpabwe church of Uganda, Rwere village and Omukyishenyi in Nyabushabi parish, Kyanamira Sub County in Kabale district

Niwagaba who is also the Shadow Attorney General said that it is unfair for the government to force Ugandans from wetlands without compensation and warned that he will drag the government to court
for evicting Ugandans from their land.

Last month, the Ministry of Water and Environment started demarcating boundaries of wetlands in Kabale district, in a move to conserve the environment.

Speaking during the launch of demarcating boundaries on 1st October 2020, at Omwibaare cell in Southern division in Kabale Municipality, the Western Regional Coordinator, National Environment
Management Authority-NEMA, Jeconious Musingwire, said that people who have crop gardens and eucalyptus trees in wetlands should harvest and vacate with immediate effect before they are forced.
