PREPARE FOR HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS IN THE NEXT TWO MONTHS, UNMA WARNS

The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) has said that most parts of the country will experience dry weather conditions for the next two months starting from this month.

According to David W Elweru, the acting executive director of UNMA in the outlook for January to February 2023, most parts of the country are likely to experience dry weather conditions except parts of South Western, Central Uganda and Mount Elgon areas which are likely to experience occasional rainfall conditions.

Elweru said that the temperatures are also expected to be warmer than average over most parts of the country.

According to the meteorological authority, the January to February period constitutes the major dry season over the country which is characterized by warmer day-time temperature values but the late February forms an onset period for the southern parts of the country.

These conditions have been attributed to the current negative phase of El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) over the central Pacific Ocean which is predicted to settle by February 2023.

However, Elweru said that such dry spell will cause impacts such fog and misty conditions advising motorists to drive with caution whenever fog and misty conditions prevail.

There has been increased rainfall in the recent months which caused havoc in some parts of the country and in others farmers jumped high.
