President Yoweri Museveni and the First Lady, Janet Museveni have got their second jabs for the Coronavirus vaccine.
Museveni and the First Lady were vaccinated for the second time from the Nakasero State Lodge today afternoon.
The two, who by taking the second jabs completed the recommended dose to minimize effects of the deadly virus, urged Ugandans to emulate them and get vaccinated.
Museveni said that they started with high-risk groups like health workers, teachers, security and people with comorbidities noting that the target is to cover over four million people.
According to the World Health organisation for some COVID-19 vaccines, two doses are required.
The President assured Ugandans that vaccines are safe and effective but urged them to continue wearing masks, washing hands with soap and water, sanitising ensuring good ventilation indoors, physically distancing and avoiding crowds to minimize transmission.
Meanwhile, the ministry of health has today announced a record 1,083 new cases of covid-19.
The cases are from tests carried out on June 1st 2021 raising the total number of cases in the country to 49,759 and one new covid-19 related death raising the number to 365.
The ministry’s spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyona has however revealed that the COVID-19 Vaccination at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds has been halted to pave way for the preparation of the grounds for the State of the Nation Address tomorrow.
