President Museveni is set to address the nation today to brief Ugandans about the current situation.

According to the presidential press secretary Linda Nabusayi, the president’s address will be broadcast on all television and radio stations at 8pm.

He is expected to, among other things; outline additional measures to be undertaken by the government to curb further spread of Covid-19.

In his last address on June 6th, the president announced a 42-day partial lockdown that saw all education institutions closed and inter-district travel banned, among other measures.

It is expected that the president will announce a second total lockdown of the country after a continued surge in the Coronavirus infections in the country.

Whereas earlier this month, the government closed schools and banned inter-district travel with hope of containing the situation, the Covid cases have continued to surge.

Scientists and the national Covid task force had earlier asked the president to totally lockdown the country but Museveni was adamant to do so since many sectors of the economy were just recovering from the previous lockdown.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health reported 1584 new Covid cases and 34 deaths from tests done on June, 15, 2020.

Uganda has now recorded 67215 infections and 542 deaths since the first case was reported in March 2020.
