At least 211 Ugandans have been safely evacuated from Sudan where they have been stuck for the last 10 days after the war erupted.
The returnees were led by Uganda’s ambassador to Sudan, Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu aboard Uganda Airlines which landed at Entebbe Airport last night at 2:00 am. KHARTOUM
They were picked from Bahanda Airport in Ethiopia, a journey which took them five days.
At least 300 Ugandans were confirmed to have been trapped in Sudan following clashes that broke out on Saturday between the forces of army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and those of his deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Ambassador Ssemuddu commended the government for providing support to evacuate its citizens.
Among the 211 people who were evacuated, 10 are children and the rest are adults.
The group was officially received by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, immigration officials, and as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs among others.
