Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have stepped up their deployment along the Uganda-DR Congo border following the Friday night school attack that left at least 37 students killed.

In a statement last evening, President Museveni described the attack as cowardly by the rebel group which has also been designated as a terrorist outfit by the United States.

According to Museveni, the ADF, one of the fiercest rebel groups operating in eastern DRC, have become desperate and cowardly due to pressure exerted by both the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the DR Congo national army following a joint operation launched in November 2021.

Museveni, in the statement posted on his twitter handle, however, wondered why Ugandan troops in eastern DR Congo failed to detect the ADF’s entry into Uganda.

According to him, the desperate, cowardly, terrorist’s action will not save them.

The president explained that following air and artillery strikes as well as offensives by the infantry UPDF and FADRC armies inside the DRC jungles, the ADF have run into disarray and are now in smaller groups.

Museveni however said the attack wouldn’t have succeeded if there was vigilance and alertness by the people around Mpondwe as it was in Ntoroko when the same group tried to attack.

The president said Uganda is going to send more troops into the area south of the Rwenzori Mountain and eliminate any gaps.
