Police in Kiboga district are holding three Uganda People’s Defence Forces soldiers over allegations of kidnap and aggravated robbery.

Wamala Police region spokesperson Rachel Kawala has identified the suspects as Sgt Kato Moses Kigozi, Pte Umar Bwambale and Pte Chepkuru George.

The soldiers are attached to the National Forestry Authority (NFA) operating from the districts of Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Mityana, Kasanda and some parts of Kakumiro.

According to Kawala, the suspects allegedly kidnapped Michael Muwama, 40, a prominent businessman and a resident of Kikora village in Kikora sub-county, Kakumiro district.

According to the spokesperson, the trio and two others still at large, made a phone call to Muwama pretending that they wanted to buy a tonne of maize grain.

However, when Muwama appeared, they allegedly kidnapped him using five guns loaded with 149 rounds of ammunition and a Toyota Wish car Registration Number UBE 649J.

Kawala added that the suspects drove him from Kakumiro up to Freedom Pub in Hoima city and continued with him to Kiwanguzi village in Kiboga town where they allegedly robbed 1.65 million shillings.

Shortly after his release, Muwama immediately reported the matter at the Kiboga Police Station.
