The Mbarara district woman councilor representing Rubaya sub county Kashari south Loydah Twinomujuni Kyarikunda Muhimbura has called upon the government to come up and start facilitating VHTs for the tremendous services they render in mobilizing the public for accessing quality health services.
Kyarikunda sounded the call while addressing participants at the closing of one day training of trainers for community engagement to identify unimmunized children in the district.
The participants included the sub county and town council chairpersons, health facility in charges, Implementing partners focal persons, health inspectors, VHT coordinators at Sub County and town council levels who will train all VHTs in sub counties and town councils.
She appealed to the parents and caretakers to adhere to messages and guidance offered by health workers and utilize nearby health facilities and designated outreach health posts to have all children under one year immunized for better health growth.
She further called upon pregnant mother’s to seek medical services rather than using local herbs only and sleep under mosquito nets and ensure children are fed on a balanced diet for better growth.
The focal person immunization program in Mbarara district who is also the Assistant District health officer Mbarara Agatha Nshabohurira Turinawe says the targeted number of children to be immunized are estimated to be two thousand fifty five children under one year.
She clarified that out of 2,055 children targeted only 50% are fully immunized and 45% are among the unimmunized who need to be identified early to avoid health challenges in their growth.
