Residents of Kahendero I Cell of Kahendero Ward in Muhokya Town Council, Kasese District are crying foul as they are homeless after a violent storm tore the roofs off their houses.
The storm was preceded by light showers on Saturday night.
Ms Grace Kabona, one of the individuals whose roof was blown off, expressed her distress, noting that the incident has not only left her and her family without shelter but has also caused extensive damage to their household belongings.
It was not different for Hadijah Masika 70yrs as her roof was also ripped off and her livestock disappeared during the night.
The local council chairperson for the area Juma Alube revealed that his house was not spared, calling for quick government intervention.
Last Month, the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) warned that the country will experience heavy rain in the next four months as Deus Bamanya, the director for applied meteorology data and climate services at UNMA, declared 2023 an El Niño year.
Also the Ministry of Water and Environment tasked people living in disaster-prone areas to shift to safer places, ahead of the coming heavy rain for the next four months.
The State Minister for Environment Beatrice Atim Anywar said people living in areas that experience floods, mudslides and landslides should move to homes of relatives that are in safer zones.
She pointed out areas like, Mount Elgon region of Mbale, Sironko, Manafwa, Bududa, Bulambuli, Namisindwa, Kapchorwa, Kween, Bukwo Bundibugyo, Kasese, Kabale, Rubanda and eastern Uganda such as Bududa, Mbale, Bulambuli, and other regions.
