OVER SHS600M ROAD FUNDS MISSING IN SHEEMA DISTRICT

editor
By editor

The Sheema District roads committee chairperson Dickson Kateshumbwa has asked the District Resident District Commissioner to probe the alleged misuse of over shs.600 million earmarked for the maintenance of roads for the first and second quarters in the district.

Notably, last year Sheema District received shs.748 million for the maintenance of 32KM of roads in the district but according to the committee, only shs.130million was used leaving many unanswered questions for shs.618million that cannot be traced on the district accounts.

During the District roads committee meeting held at the District the committee members led by Dickson Kateshumbwa who is also the MP Sheema municipality observed that the acting District engineer ,Allan Mbaga allegedly connived with the District Chief Administrative Officer Martin Barigye to withdraw the money leaving many roads in the district unworked.

Kateshumbwa advised the district authorities not to commission the substandard roads as it will force the committee to expose the shoddy works on roads.

On her part, Jemima Buhanda, the district Chairperson, urged the district engineers to drop their pride and acknowledge their mistakes so that the roads committee can guide them on a possible way forward.
