Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has dismissed allegations that their grading system is selective and that candidates’ scripts can easily be accessed, saying it’s false.
The examination body released the statement following messages circulating on social media questioning UNEB’s grading system.
In a statement dated February 7, 2024, UNEB called on the public to disregard the misleading information, saying the grading system is uniform and is in tandem with the set quality assurance procedures without any discrimination on the basis of regional, urban or rural.
The UNEB executive director, Dan Odongo said any allegation of unfair advantage of some candidates over others is malicious propaganda, baseless, and should be treated with utmost contempt.
Odongo said accessing candidates’ scripts is highly restricted with tight security measures due to the sensitivity and complexities around the script and that any person who purports to have seen their child’s script and the raw marks is therefore making false claims.
He said UNEB conducts valid, reliable, equitable and quality assessments of learners’ achievements professionally and innovatively, and awards internationally recognised certificates.
