85-Year-Old General Moses Ssali Announces 2026 Election Bid

General Moses Ali is far from being done with active politics, he is already set for Adjumani West parliamentary seat come 2026.

The Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament says he still has enough gas in the tank to march forward.

“Some people pronounced me dead several times, It was only Jesus Christ who died and rose again,” said the octogenarian politician with a tinge of sarcasm.

Born April 5, 1939, 85 is just a number for the veteran politician, a near-mainstay in the NRM government and one of Museveni’s biggest weapons to keeping West Nile sub-region in check.

Speaking as he handed out 130 land titles in Kiraba Parish in Adjumani District on Wednesday, the minister said: “Elections are held every five years in Uganda. I will contest again, and if you are not happy, it’s up to you.”

At Kiraba Parish, Ali also commissioned the Kiraba Community Resources Centre and the KuluKulu-Zoka Community Road in Ukusijoni Sub-county, Adjumani District.

Addressing the gathered crowd, Gen Ali said given the democratic nature of elections, he was welcome to face competition from any prospective candidates.

“Anybody can contest with me in 2026. I have no problem. It’s you to make your choice, I still have the energy to serve the people of Adjumani West. Let me repeat myself that I will contest again,” he said.

The minister’s resolve is rather at odds with the recent clamour from incumbents who have been making every effort to dismiss challengers and ask the electorate to retain their service in 2026.
