Police in Kitgum District have arrested a man accused of assaulting his friend to death following a dispute over roasted rat meat.
According to police sources, the disagreement began after the suspect allegedly discovered that one of his roasted rats was missing, leading to a quarrel that later turned into a physical fight.
The victim, identified as Omony, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Orom Health Centre for treatment. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police later arrested the suspect, who is currently being detained at Kitgum Central Police Station as investigations continue.
The deceased’s body was transferred to Namukora Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
In parts of Northern Uganda, particularly in Kitgum and Lamwo districts, roasted rats are considered a delicacy and also serve as a source of income for some residents. A roasted rat is commonly sold at between Shs 500 and Shs 1,000, depending on its size.
