Police and the army have today raided offices of the Kyadondo East MP led National Unity Platform (NUP).

The security operatives that deployed heavily at the premises raided the MP and presidential aspirant- Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s offices in Kamwokya, Kampala at around 11am today morning.

The security officers broke up and a search lasted for more than 2 hours as police broke into several offices.

NUP secretary general, David Lewis Rubongoya confirmed that several bales of red berets, documents and other campaign materials were confiscated adding that the officers did not present any search warrants but they instead forced their way in.

Bobi Wine through his social media page alleged that the security officers took away the forms of signatures that were going to be used for nomination, Shs 23 million that was collected through fundraising to support their parliamentary candidates.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, confirmed the raid but said that the operation was necessitated to enforce misuse of government gazetted attire suspected to be in NUP premises.

Enanga said the operation was targeting all locations illegally manufacturing, supplying, distributing, selling and using uniforms and accoutrements whose ownership and patented designs was gazetted and an exclusive preserve of the armed forces.

It is remembered that the government through the minister of defense gazetted the red beret as a preserve of the army.
