RUKUNGIRI-11c20791

Residents in Rukungiri Municipality are protesting against the increasingly deteriorating state of the Rukungiri-Kanungu road.

Sections of the road have been in a poor state for more than four months as road users complain of potholes and poor drainage where they say the situation worsened by the heavy rains pounding the region.

Monday Kamugisha, a road user says that the authorities have kept a deaf ear about the state of the road saying heavy rains being experienced coupled with the heavy trucks that ply the route have left it messy and impassable.

Simon Nuwagaba, a Boda Boda cyclist in Rukungiri town appeals to Uganda National Roads Authority- UNRA to intervene and carry out maintenance works to ensure normal traffic flow resumes.

Umra Mugisha, Boda Boda rider in Rukungiri town says that during the campaigns in 2015, the leaders pledged to improve the roads in the area, but up to date, nothing has been done.

Engineer Alison Abenado Twine, the UNRA Station Engineer in Kigezi region called for patience saying that they are yet to get a contractor for the road works.
