The High Court in Nakasongola district has jailed a 28-year-old man to life imprisonment for murder.

Justice Anthony Ojok Oyuku yesterday sentenced Joshua Jjumba alias Sulaiman Fred Kirabo a resident of Namayonjo village in Wabinyonyi Sub County in Nakasongola to life imprisonment after he convicted him of four counts of murder.

The Prosecution led by Nakasongola State Attorney Angelo Wasswa Bengo told the High Court sitting at Nakasongola prisons that on 5th Day of December 2019, that Jjumba with malice aforethought unlawfully killed four people by beheading them with a panga.

Jjumba later handed himself to Katugo Police checkpoint and he confessed how he killed the four people.

The State Attorney Angelo Bengo Wasswa asked the Judge to sentence the convict to 200 years in jail to deter others from committing the same crime.

But the defence lawyer for the convict Edward Ndahura asked the Court to grant Jjumba a lenient sentence saying he is young, a first offender and can be rehabilitated by a psychiatrist.

While delivering his sentence, Oyuku observed that the innocent lives including those of children were lost but the convict was not remorseful throughout the trial only to deny some parts of his confession statement which didn’t favour him.

He said that he found it appropriate to sentence Jjumba to serve his entire life in jail.
