FOUR SCHOOLS CLOSED AS TEN HEADTEACHERS ARRESTED OVER FAULTING OF COVID19 SOPS

Four primary schools in Kisoro district have been closed and 10 teachers arrested for allegedly violating COVID-19 guidelines.

The schools that were closed during an operation yesterday, include St Lawrence Pre and Primary School in Nyakinama sub-county, Blessed Future Primary School, Victorious Pre and Primary School in Nyarubuye sub-county and Bunagana Pride Pre and Primary School in Bunagana Town Council. 

The operation was led by Captain Peter Mugisha, the Resident District Commissioner and Emmanuel Mbonyebyombi, the District Inspector of Schools, with the support of police operatives.

 Mbonyebyombi told our reporter that the closed schools were found teaching nursery section and primary one up to three yet the pupils are supposed not to be at school.

Mbonyebyombi says that the schools were also found without hand washing facilities in the compound.

Cleophas Naturinda, the Officer-in-charge of Kisoro police station confirmed that the ten teachers are being detained at Kisoro police station as investigations into the matter continue.
