AM COMING AS INDEPENDENT, KADAGA VOWS TO STAND IN SPEAKERSHIP RACE

Kamuli Woman MP, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, also the outgoing 10th Parliament Speaker says she will contest as an Independent in the race for the 11th Parliament Speaker.

Kadaga told journalists at a Hotel Africana Press Conference that while her NRM Party has decided to field her former Deputy, Jacob Oulanyah for the position, she will also exercise her right to run as an Independent candidate when Parliament meets today to elect Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Her decision followed the NRM’s Central Executive Committee resolution to field Jacob Oulanyah as the party’s preferred candidate for the office of the Speaker of the 11th Parliament.

She says the major reason she is being chased out is that she has been speaking on issues affecting ordinary people.

She said that by ejecting her, the position of women in the constitution has been eliminated.
