Members of 11th Parliament have already taken their seats at Kololo independence as they hold their first sitting where they are to elect the speaker and the deputy speaker.

Yesterday NRM which is with a majority of the members endorsed Jacob Oulanyah for speakership dumping Rebecca Kadaga who has been at the helm of parliament for 10 years.

NRM also endorsed the Bukedea Woman MP Anita Amongi to run for deputy speaker of Parliament under their flag beating the competition from Ruhinda North County Thomas Tayebwa and Robinah Gureme Rwakoojo.

However, Kadaga has vowed to return in the race as independent.

Tayebwa had first declared to run as an independent but later he withdrew his candidature saying he took the decision after a lengthy discussion with president Museveni.

Both Kadaga and NRM’s Oulanyah face competition from FDC’s Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and Democratic Party’s (DP) Richard Ssebamala who defeated the then Vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi in the January elections.

While Amongi faces Mohamed Nsereko, the Kampala central legislator who tried to take the same seat in 10th parliament but lost to Oulanyah.

It is expected that President Museveni is to attend today’s 11th Parliament first sitting.
