The Police Land Protection Unit in Kyotera district rushed to Kissaka-Samba village in Kakuuto sub-county yesterday to quell clashes over 58 acres of land.
The dispute between the family of the late Yusufu Byomere and over 35 bibanja holders started over two years ago.

The occupants accuse Byomere’s son identified as Peter Kibi of selling off the land to unknown developers without their knowledge.

Mary Nabukenya and Florence Nakaaki, the two of those affected, claim that Kibi disposed of the land during the COVID19 lockdown when the government through the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development halted all kinds of land transactions.

Fred Matovu, another affected resident, says that the land transactions are often done at night without their knowledge.

David Kirabira and Esther Nakayenga, both administrators of the late Byomere’s estate say that Kibi has no right to sell the land because it wasn’t up for sale.

Kirabira says that Byomere respected all the Bibanja holders and lived with them peacefully, adding that whoever buys land from Kibi does so at his or her own risk.

However, Muteera Asiimwe, the Community Liaison Office has halted further land transactions by Kibi to avoid bloodshed.
