Rwizi Region Police are hunting for assailants behind the murder of Fred Kabanda, the LC V Councilor of Kabura Sub County in Rwampara District.
Passersby found the deceased lying unconscious with stab wounds on his body along the road at a junction in Kichwamba near Katukuru Trading Center last evening and immediately notified police.
The Rwizi Region Police Spokesman, Samson Kasasira, says that the councilor was rushed to Mayanja Hospital in critical condition resulting from excessive bleeding.
According to Kasasira, his condition deteriorated prompting his transfer to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
According to Kasasira, the assailants are believed to have picked up Kabanda from OmuKikoona – Ruti junction on his way from a meeting at Rwampara District Headquarters.
He says that the deceased’s mobile phone, money and personal documents were missing by the time he was found.
He says that they took the body to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary where a postmortem was carried out and the body handed over to the relatives for burial as investigations commence.
