President Yoweri Museveni has condemned the coup d’état that happened in Guinea on Sunday, describing it as “a step backwards”.

He said the coup leaders should face sanctions and “get out”.

In an interview with France’s news channel the President said those military coups are of low value, as they were mostly in the 1960s, and they were part of Africa’s problems.

The 83-year-old Alpha Conde was deposed following intense gunfire in parts of Guinea’s capital Conakry on Sunday.

Conde was among the presidents that witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of President Museveni on May 12, as he extended his rule to four decades.
