Police in Mitooma district are holding a church of Uganda priest for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 16 year old girl.
Adah Nasiima, the Resident district commissioner Mitooma confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Rev Gordon Muhwezi, 56yrs, a curate of Nyarutuntu church Mahungye parish Kigarama archdeaconry.
Nasiima said that they were tipped off by concerned residents that the servant of God was in negotiation with daughter’s parents in Kimuri 2, Rutookye, Mitooma district to settle the case amicably.
She ordered police to rush to the scene and they arrested the suspect who is currently detained at Mitooma police station and a girl admitted at Mitooma health center 4 as he had carried out abortion.
The RDC advised parents not to engage in covering up these crimes that put the lives of young girls to risk.
