A family in Tumangu Ward, Labongo Akwang Sub County in Kitgum District was on Sunday forced to bury their son without a casket after a man they entrusted with money to buy one disappeared.
It’s reported that members of Pabwoc clan, over the weekend raised 300,000 Shillings to buy a casket for a decent burial of their deceased son, David Kibwota 46 who committed suicide on Friday night.
Kibwota reportedly hanged himself on unclear grounds shortly after disappearing from his home on Friday evening.
According to sources, hours after Kibwota’s body was found, family members embarked on burial arrangements and entrusted Francis Oyoo, a cousin brother to the deceased with 300,000 Shillings to purchase a casket in Kitgum Municipality as the burial was scheduled for 2 pm Sunday.
Richard Ocitti, the Bongolaku village LCI Chairperson however says that Oyoo who had been sent to purchase the casket early in the morning never returned home.
Ocitti says, hours after waiting for his return with the casket in vain, the distraught family members were left with no option but to bury the deceased body minus a casket at about 4 pm.
He notes that Oyoo’s known mobile phone number also went off adding that all efforts to trace his whereabouts and a motorcycle he hired from the village were futile.
Ocitti however says the police at Labongo Akwang Sub-county Police post have already been alerted and a manhunt for the suspect is already underway.
