The South Ankole diocese Mothers Union President Ms Lillian Ahimbisibwe has raised a concern over boys being neglected in parenting, an issue that is a recipe for disaster in the future family and church.

She says there is a strong need for engaging parents that they apart from engaging girls on self protection and responsible life but also train boys in key issues especially building families so that the community does not produce one sex that is responsible and another destructive.

Ms Ahimbisibwe who is also wife to the diocesan Bishop Rt Rev Nathan Ahimbisibwe reasons that boys need to be trained in parenting skills early as girls are engaged traditionally if responsible families are to be achieved in future.

She says the role of mothers’ union is now to rally male parents to engage their male children in skills development and family building so that boys are prepared well before they get old enough to take their own decisions.

She was speaking during a church service yesterday where 150 young people were confirmed at a confirmation ceremony held at Kishami parish church of Uganda.

Preaching at the service, Bishop Ahimbisibwe said the recent trail of teenage pregnancy in many areas in the country was a symbol of moral degeneration not only in girls but also in boys who impregnate them.

He challenged the youth against failure to change even after being preached to, being guided and inspired to change.
