A woman is in police custody on allegations of poisoning her husband while in detention at Kayunga Police Station.

Rebecca Lukusi is suspected to have poisoned her husband, Habib Tayitika at Kayunga police station on Wednesday last week.

Lukusi is a resident of Kalidasi village in Kangulumira sub-county and according to preliminary information, Lukusi visited the police station on Wednesday and convinced officers that she wanted to chat with her husband who was in custody for cattle theft and obtaining money by false pretense.

Detectives allowed Lukusi to meet Tayitika in the compound where they had a private conversation for some minutes.

Tayitika developed stomach complications less than an hour after meeting his wife and according to Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the officers searched Tayitika and found him with purple sugar-like crystals.

Enanga explains that attempts to give him first aid proved futile as his condition was fast deteriorating and he was rushed to Kangulumira Health IV where he was pronounced dead on Thursday morning.

According to Enanga, police proceeded to Lukusi’s home where they recovered more purple sugar-like crystals and arrested her.

It is reported that Lukusi has since been moved to Ssezibwa region headquarters as she awaits to appear in court for murder.
