There is heavy deployment of the Anti-riot police and the Uganda Peoples Defense forces-UPDF soldiers at the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom premises in Hoima city.

The Anti-riot police and the UPDF deployment is visible at the Kingdom headquarters, at the entrance of the Omukama’s palace and inside the palace.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has confirmed the deployment of the officers saying they received intelligence-led information that some people opposed to the leadership of Andrew Kirungi Byakutaga, the Prime minister of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom were planning to go and cause commotion at the Kingdom headquarters on Monday afternoon.

He says the deployment is aimed at protecting the King, his workers, property and to restore peace within the Kingdom.

Andrew Byakutaga, the embattled Kingdom prime minister explained that they sought heavy deployment from the police after receiving a number of threats from some people, saying they cannot take such a situation lightly.

On Sunday, the Babiito clan members through the Okwiri Fred Mugenyi Ruchunya ordered Byakutaga to immediately vacate office.

According to a January 30th, 2022 letter seen by our reporter, the ruling clan members in their meeting chaired by Okwiri Fred Mugenyi Ruchunya at Karuziika palace in Hoima City on January 29th, 2022 resolved to suspend Byakutaga from running the Kingdom affairs until further notice.

They fault the prime minister for the gross mismanagement of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom assets and property including the destruction of Bugoma central forest reserve, Muhangaizima cultural site, royal burial sites in the greater Kibaale, Katasiiha Fort historical site, and Miduuma burial ground in Masindi.

Above all the Babiito clan accuses the Prime minister of Keeping their beloved king hostage by blocking his close relatives from accessing him including his sisters.

According to the Babiito clan, the accusations against the prime minister amount to gross abuse of office and leadership before the Kingdom subjects.

Byakutaga has however, refuted all the allegations leveled against him as baseless and aimed at tarnishing his image before the public.
