The Bishop Kiyinda-Mityana Catholic Diocese Joseph Anthony Zziwa has appealed to the government to put in place measures to reduce commodities in the country.

According to Bishop Zziwa, the increasing cost of fuel has sparked a rise in the prices of household items and negatively affected the livelihood of the citizens as many cannot afford the cost of basic necessities like soap, sugar, and cooking oil among others.

Bishop Zziwa’s appeal adds voice to other citizens and leaders who have decried the rising prices of necessities which have affected the capacity of the people to afford household items for domestic use.

The cost of soap has more than doubled in recent weeks from 3500 Shillings a bar to 7500 Shillings in most parts of the country.

Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba in relation to commodity prices said that the government is laying strategies to reverse the situation and stabilise commodity prices.
