The Ibanda Grade One magistrate court has sentenced a 37 year old man to three years in prison for stealing beans from an elderly woman.

Ibanda Grade One magistrate Esther Murungi handed down the three-year sentence to 37-year-old for Ronald Tashora and is to spend the time inside Nyabuhikye Prison.

Murungi said Ronald Tashorora was a habitual offender who needed to be removed from the community and helped to reform.

Earlier, court learnt from prosecution that Tashorora was not a first-time offender having served time at Nyabuhikye Prison over similar crimes after the court had jailed him for 18 months over charges of housebreaking and theft on November 11, 2020.

According to the prosecution led by Emmanuel Tian, Tashorora stole 33kg of dry beans worth shillings 115,500 from the home of Oliva Kobwemi, 63, of Rwahura on July 27, 2023.

The owner spotted him as he was leaving and reported the matter to Police which tracked him down, arrested and charged accordingly.
