A resident of Buyende district has been sentenced to serve 12 years in Jinja-based Kirinya prison after confessing to murdering his wife.

Peter Kakaire, 41, confessed during a plea bargain court session presided over by Justice Dr Winfred Nabisinde, at the Jinja city-based High Court.
Kakaire is accused of murdering his wife, Serina Kawutana, after a misunderstanding.
Court heard that Kakaire committed the offence on September 17th, 2022, in Bulondo village, Buyende district.
According to neighbours who heard the deceased screaming, they ran to her rescue but found Kakaire beating Kawutana on the head.
Reports indicate that the couple was separated but Kakaire later resumed beating his wife until she started bleeding from the mouth and the nose and lost consciousness.
Kakaire was advised to take her to the hospital for treatment but on arrival, she was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, during the same session, Hassan Ogwang was also sentenced to eight years after pleading guilty to manslaughter charges.
Court heard that on September 28, 2021, he used a sharp object to hit Robert Agesa on the head which caused him to bleed.
The victim was rushed to Buyende Hospital where he died from.
Due to fear of mob justice, Ogwang ran to the nearby Police post where he reported himself and investigations started.
