A 25-year-old man in Pader District is on the run after he allegedly hacked his mother to death.

Erick Ojok, a resident of Atup village in Lunyiri Sub-county fled home after hacking 45-year-old Ketty Lamwaka twice on the head with an axe on Sunday.

Charles Odongtoo, the Lunyiri Sub-county LCIII Chairperson says that the suspect had for long had violent behaviour and often fought his younger sister.

Odongtoo says according to reports from family members, the suspect on the fateful morning had intended to kill his sister but failed to get her after breaking the door to her grass-thatched hut.

He adds that the suspect later went and broke the door to her mother’s hut where she was sleeping with his stepdad and hacked her twice on the head with an axe.

Odongtoo notes that Lamwaka sustained severe injuries and passed on shortly after an attempt to transfer her for emergency medical treatment at a health facility about two kilometres away from her home.

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong confirmed the incident but offered a different account of what prompted the killing.

He notes that statements from potential witnesses have been obtained by police detectives adding that efforts to apprehend the suspect who is still on the run are underway.
