The High Court in Lira has sentenced Paul Mugerwa to 40 years in prison for the murder of Dr Wilfred Olila, a former Soroti University lecturer and renowned ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist who owned New Moroto Clinic in Lira City.
Lady Justice Sarah Kyalibala Birungi also handed Mugerwa 20 years for aggravated robbery.
Mugerwa, 32, had earlier admitted to participating in the killing of Dr Olila, who was abducted, robbed and later strangled in January 2025.
Court heard that Dr Olila was lured from his clinic in Lira City and kidnapped near Lira Hotel in Senior Quarters.
He was robbed of cash and a mobile phone before being killed.
His body was later discovered on January 17, 2025 along the Otuboi–Abalang Road in Ogolai Village, Kalaki District.
A post-mortem confirmed death by strangulation.
