Youths living with HIV have been called up on to be ambassadors in fighting against the spread of HIV/AIDS among adolescents.

This call was made by Allan Nuwagaba Hadaadi youth community monitor International Community of Women living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA) during the media café in Mbarara city that was sponsored by the Health Journalist Network in Uganda HEJNU.

Allan Nuwagaba Hadaadi noted that he got to know that he was HIV positive at 11 years following several illnesses in 2011, to his surprise he doesn’t know where he got the virus because both his parents and the family members were all HIV negative.

Christopher Nahabwe HIV focal Person Mbarara district noted that youths are the most affected group in the HIV prevalence standing at 6.1 male and female at 11.8 percent in Mbarara district with Rubindi-Ruhumba Town council as the leading spot area which calls for more vigilance among the youth.

Anita Matsika the HEJNU coordinator asked the journalists to always do health related stories on HIV/AIDS as one way of creating awareness within the community.
