Mununi Paul Kazira a freelance journalist in Kisoro district has been referred to Mayanja memorial hospital in Mbarara after spending two days at Kabale referral hospital nursing serious injuries he acquired during a nasty accident on motorcycle last week as he was coming from covering a news story in Kisoro district.
The accident happened on 30th January 2022 at Hamurwa Trading center in the afternoon when Mr. Paul was traveling with boda boda motorcycle number UDK 232S and was knocked by a speeding vehicle which was coming from Kanungu to Kisoro town.
The boda boda cyclist by names of Bashir Twine died instantly whereas Mununi Paul Kazira survived with serious injuries.
According to his brother Tom Mbasu, the Kabale Hospital administrators decided to have Mr Paul referred to Mayanja memorial hospital to receive specialized treatment but due to lack of ambulance services, he was delayed until today morning.
The driver of a speeding Toyota land cruiser No. UBB 601Q disappeared after the accident and police is searching for him as the vehicle was impounded and towed to Kisoro central police station.
Speaking to our reporter, residents in the area say, this place has been a hot spot of accidents thus requesting Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to put road humps in this place. They said every year, the same hot spot registers not less than 50 road accidents.
According to the preliminary investigations so far carried out by traffic police, the driver of the Toyota Land cruiser is to blame for reckless driving and over speeding yet this trading center of Hamurwa is has many sharp corners.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate says the driver will be hunted until he is caught and prosecuted according to the laws.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mununi Paul Kazira according to doctors, is supposed to receive specialized treatment at the hospital which treatment will take over four months because most of his body parts were severely affected by the accident.
