Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital will re-open to the public next month following its closure to act as Covid19 management centre.
The hospital closed the outpatient, dental, optical, maternal and child care departments in March last year to focus on the effective management of Covid-19 patients.
The hospital used to serve a population of over one million people from within Entebbe municipality, Katabi Town council and Buvuma and Kalangala districts.
Muhammad Mubiru, the Principal Administrator Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital, says management wants the hospital to re-open to the public on April 1st.
The hospital will resume normal operations in a phased manner, as it will also continue handling Covid-19 cases.
Vincent DePaul Kayanja, the Entebbe Municipal Mayor, in a recent interview noted that he had urged the Ministry of Health on several occasions to re-open part of the hospital due to the outcry from the public.
Kayanja says the closure of the hospital has strained service delivery at Katabi and Kigungu health centers.
