EVBox has made a landmark contribution to electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in Illinois by donating 40 EVBox Iqon charging stations. This donation, made in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), aims to improve accessibility for EV drivers and bolster the state’s commitment to sustainability. These Level 2 charging stations will be installed at state parks, museums, beaches, and historic sites across Illinois, offering visitors convenient and environmentally friendly charging options.

Collaborative Effort to Enhance EV Infrastructure

Governor JB Pritzker, alongside representatives from IDNR, local leadership, and EVBox executives, announced the initiative during a formal event in Libertyville. The partnership between EVBox, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), and IDNR underscores a shared vision for advancing electric mobility and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“By expanding EV charging infrastructure across Illinois, we are not only addressing the needs of current EV drivers but also paving the way for future adoption,” said Governor Pritzker. “This initiative demonstrates Illinois’ commitment to a cleaner, greener future.”

Supporting Sustainability in Illinois Public Spaces

EVBox’s donation marks the first deployment of publicly accessible EV chargers by the State of Illinois. Visitors to state parks and other public spaces will be able to charge their vehicles without a usage fee, providing an added incentive to explore Illinois’ scenic locations.

“We’re proud to support Illinois’ efforts to transition to electric mobility,” said Dan Fedor, Senior Business Development Manager at EVBox. “Our mission aligns with the state’s goal of reducing carbon emissions while enhancing accessibility in public spaces.”

The chargers are strategically placed to serve popular destinations, including:

  • Frank Holten State Park (East St. Louis)
  • Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area (near Carlyle)
  • Washington County State Recreation Area (near Nashville)
  • Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area (Cass County)
  • Starved Rock State Park (LaSalle County)
  • Giant City State Park (Jackson County)
  • Shabbona Lake State Recreation Area (Dekalb County)
  • William Powers State Recreation Area (Cook County)

Promoting Green Tourism and Zero Emissions Goals

The installation of EV chargers aligns with the goals outlined in IDNR’s climate action plan, which targets zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. By providing convenient charging options, the state encourages EV adoption while promoting tourism to its parks and historic sites. Illinois now joins states like Michigan, Minnesota, and Tennessee in offering EV charging stations at public recreation areas.

“This initiative not only supports our environmental objectives but also enhances the visitor experience,” said Sunny Patel, Senior Product Manager at EVBox. “We’re thrilled to see our technology enabling both sustainability and community engagement.”

Advancing Electric Mobility Across Illinois

As electric vehicles become more common, access to charging stations in public spaces is critical for easing the transition to greener transportation. EVBox’s contribution is a significant step forward in achieving this goal.

For Illinois residents and visitors alike, the availability of free EV charging at state parks represents a major convenience and reinforces the state’s leadership in sustainability initiatives. Together, Illinois and EVBox are driving toward a cleaner future, one charge at a time.
