FORTPORT CITY MAYOR MUHANGA LOOSES SEAT TO RUYONGA IN YESTERDAY’S LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

The National Resistance Movement -NRM candidate Edson Asaba Ruyonga, has won the Fort Portal Tourism City Mayoral race.

Ruyonga, who was the former Mayor Fort Portal Municipality from 2001 to 2016, defeated four others including the incumbent Rev Willy Kintu Muhanga, an independent candidate.

According to the results declared by the Fort Portal Returning Officer, James Mugenyi, Ruyonga garnered 15,312 votes while Muhanga got 9,699 votes.

In Kabale, the National Resistance Movement-NRM party candidate also the Mayor for Katuna town council, Nelson Nshangabasheija was declared the winner of the Kabale district LCV seat.

He was declared by the Kabale District Electoral Commission Registrar, Hajji Ahmed Naduli Musisi at around 2:35am today morning.

 Nshangabasheija garnered 36,107 votes defeating the former Kyankwanzi Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Denis Nzeirwe, an independent candidate who obtained 33,651 votes. 

Shortly after he was declared as a winner, Nshangabasheija promised to unite the people of Kabale district.
