Police in Mbarara district have arrested four people in connection to extortion of money from beneficiaries of Parish Development Model (PDM) program.

The suspects from Itara parish development committee in Rubaya Sub County who are now held at Bwizibwera police station are Valerian Twesigye, Adrine Kyokusiima as treasure, Calebb Karuhanga, and Asaph Beingana as chairperson.

It’s alleged that the four suspects have been extorting and deducting money from beneficiaries of PDM under the guise of withdraw fees.

Emmy Kateera Turyabagyenyi the RDC Mbarara district confirmed the arrest of the four and he added that the case is under investigation and they are currently detained at Rubindi police station.

Kateera also warned all parish chiefs and committees to avoid extortion of money from beneficiaries of PDM and urged members of the public to report all those who intend to do so.
