Minister for public service Henry Mululi Mukasa says the current system of government can’t fix the unemployment gap even if all the positions in government are filled by 100%.
He says with the surging numbers of the unemployed and the government employing less than 10% of the employable Ugandans, there is a need for growth of the private sector to accommodate more people.
With 9 million Ugandans officially unemployed, Mukasa says public service only employs 471000 people from the country, and can only accommodate up to 1 million jobs if all government vacant positions are filled.
He was presiding over a Christian conference to launch the Favored Evangelist Ministries international in Ntungamo district yesterday.
The conference was dubbed Police, security and the church, how the church can help in ensuring security.
Poked by the Convener of the mission Pastor Lamech Natukwasa and evangelist Pr Moses Saali on job creation, and government failure to accommodate more educated citizens while preaching, he said this may be unachievable.
Mukasa who is also the immediate former Minister for security said security can only be effective when all sections of the country’s population are satisfied, disciplined and productive than deploying police, army and making structures like LC system and intelligence.
He challenged churches to become proper mediators in peace building by ensuring the minds of people are settled to have proper discipline that would cause better production.
