HEALTH TRAINING INSTITUTIONS SET TO REOPEN THIS FRIDAY

The Ministry of Education and Sport has waived the pre-reopening inspection for health training institutions ahead of the scheduled reopening on Friday.

Since the outbreak of COVID19 disease, the ministry has been carrying out inspections to ensure that schools meet the required standard operating procedures-SOPs before learners can be allowed.

On the checklist of the ministry, an institution is required to have a score of at least 60 percent with special attention put on the ability to maintain social distance and the availability of hand washing equipment.

However, Hajjat Safinah Musene, Commissioner Business Technical and Vocational Training (BTVET), says they assume that all health training institutions meet the required standards since most of them had been given certificates of compliance before they reopened last year.

Hajjat Musene notes that instead of pre-reopening inspection, the ministry is planning to carry out compliance visits most of which will be prompt and random.

She says that during such visits they will be looking at how the institutions and students are complying with the set SOPs and those not adhering will be forced to close or be advised otherwise.

Uganda has 181 health training institutions; eleven universities, one tutors’ college and 169 nursing and allied institutions.
