MAYUGE: 4 Family Members Killed, 5 Injured after Gunmen Attack

By Admin

Four members of the same family have been shot dead in Mayuge district.

The deceased included 42-year-old Isaac Buyinza, and his three children; Elesi Kafuko 15 years old, 13-year-old Resty Katono, and Nicholas Mudhasi aged six years, all residents of Nawanvubu village, in Buwaaya sub-county.

His wife Jesca Timujibwa and the other four children were critically injured and were admitted at Iganga General hospital. Unknown people stormed Buyinza’s house on Saturday at around 9:00 pm and shot the four before fleeing off on waiting motorcycles.

Siraje Isabirye, the LC I chairperson of Nawanvubu village says that the incident happened when most residents were still awake, but none was able to trail the assailants for fear of being attacked.

Hussein Kamali, the LC III chairperson of Buwaaya sub-county says that Buyinza has been embroiled in various court battles over unspecified chunks of land and judgment was expected next month.

Kamali also reveals that Buyinza had informed local leaders how his life was under threat over land, but the area security team downplayed his claims. He wants the police to investigate all the leads being provided by residents.

Mayuge district police commander, Agnes Aanyu said that Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) and police were dispatched to the crime scene to intensify inquiries on the whereabouts of the assailants and their motives.
