President Museveni who doubles as the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman has directed that the party flag for Omoro County by-election be given to Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, the son of the late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

This was after the NRM aspirants and leaders failed to agree on the choice of a sole candidate to carry the party’s flag in the by-election.

At least six party members had expressed interest to contest in the Omoro County Parliamentary seat and included Omoro District Chairperson Douglas Peter Okello, Andrew Olal, Francis Rwotlonyo, Richard Bongowat Luganya, and Ben Acellam.

In a meeting between the aspirants and the president last night at countryside home Rwakitura, Museveni is said to have ordered all NRM contestants to step down for Ojok.

Sources that attended the meeting told Endigyito radio that all the other four aspirants from the NRM agreed to step down in favour of the late Oulanyah’s son, leaving him unopposed in the party.

President Museveni, according to party sources, commended the four aspirants for putting the party first before self and agreeing to step aside for a smooth process.

The NRM chairman said that it is a matter of decency but also avoiding wastage of time adding that if the Oulanyah’s son does not perform in the remaining 3 years, then they may come back and compete with him in the next elections.

The electoral commission has set May 26th, 2022 as the date for the Omoro County Parliamentary by-election.
