Six people died on the spot and eight others were critically injured on Thursday morning when the commuter omnibus, popularly known as Drone, they were in rammed into the back of a parked sugarcane truck on the Jinja-Iganga Highway at Kakira.

The collision occurred at around 3AM in the morning, where a Toyota Hiace (registration UBP 574J) travelling from Iganga side rammed into the back of a parked sugarcane truck (registration UAF 333B).

Witnesses reported that the speeding taxi from Namisindwa District crashed into the back of the stationary truck, killing six people on the spot.

Mable Asingwire, the Kiira Region Traffic Officer, confirmed the accident details.

“The accident resulted in the loss of six lives on the spot, and the injured passengers were taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention,” she said.
