The Archbishop of the Church Of Uganda, Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, has challenged leaders of all churches in Ankole Diocese and other parts of the country to start income-generating projects.
Kazimba said the move, once adopted and embraced by all churches and Christians will be a new tool to address global challenges and enable churches to sustain themselves and improve their living conditions.
Kazimba made the comments while presiding over the official opening of Millennium SACCO 2012 regional offices in Mbarara City.
The event was also attended by the Bishop of East Rwenzori Diocese, Rt Rev. George Turyasingura, and the top leadership of Ankole Diocese.
Kazimba noted that such projects will help to support the gospel. He said that as the Church of Uganda, they are encouraging all dioceses to become self-supportive, especially in this period when donors in the Western world have gone astray embracing practices which are not biblical.
He said such projects are not only key for the development of the church but largely supplement the development of the country and improve the well-being of all Christians.
He thanked Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa for the vision of starting many projects in the diocese and also hailed vision supporters and implementers who ensured the progress of the diocese projects.
