Three presidential candidates have been nominated on the day one of nomination exercises as other two have been differed over missing out some crucial documents.

President Museveni of NRM was first to be nominated to contest in the 2021 general election as he seeks to extend his rule to the fourth decade.

After nomination President Museveni warned those who want to involve violence the election and asked Ugandans to maintain peace and also continue observing SOPs to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu was the second to be nominated as a candidate to take part in the 2021 presidential race.

At about 12:50 p.m. Tumukunde’s nomination was first deferred after an anomaly was detected in one of his nomination papers and was advised to correct it which he did and was later duly nominated.

Speaking to reporters after his nominations, Tumukunde said this is the time to have meaningful change in Uganda.

Alliance for National Transformation’s (ANT) Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu Gregg, also followed in the line and was also nominated as a presidential candidate to take part in the 2021 general election.

Speaking to the media after his nomination, Muntu called upon the Electoral Commission to organize an election that is acceptable to all those who are going to take part in it.
