Three candidates of the National Unity Platform (NUP) spent Monday night in police cells at Kagadi Central Police station where they are still being held.
The arrested leaders are the NUP coordinator for Kagadi district, Josias Tumukwasibwe, Brian Asingwire contesting for Buyaga East Parliament seat and Anna Nasaka who is standing for Kagadi district LC5 chairperson seat.
The trio was arrested yesterday evening immediately after launching their campaigns at their offices and made processions within Kagadi town.
Police immediately swung into action and arrested them.
Peter Aimai, the officer in charge of operations at Kagadi Central Police station says the NUP leaders were arrested for violating the COVID-19 guidelines and were not following the standard operating procedures-SOPs set by the Ministry of Health and the Electoral Commission since they attracted hundreds of people to join the possession.
By press time the leaders were still being held at Kagadi Central police station pending investigations.
