A fatal road accident in Ngogolo village, Butuntumula Sub-county, Luweero District, has claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Monday along the Kampala-Gulu highway and involved a silver Toyota with registration number UBH 003Z.
According to ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the spokesperson for the Savannah region police, the car was en route to Kampala from Gulu when the driver lost control and hit a pedestrian.
The victim, identified as Eunice Nakito from Ngogolo village, was walking along the roadside when she was struck. She was rushed to Luweero Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The driver reportedly fled the scene and has yet to be identified. Police have since impounded the vehicle and taken it to Luweero Central Police Station for inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
“We have opened a case of a fatal accident and are actively investigating to track down the driver,” ASP Twiineamazima stated.
He urged motorists to be especially vigilant when driving through rural areas with high pedestrian activity.
“It’s heartbreaking to continue losing young lives because of reckless driving. We encourage anyone with information about the suspect to assist in our investigations,” he added.
The incident is part of a troubling pattern of accidents on Uganda’s highways, raising ongoing concerns about speeding, careless driving, and pedestrian safety.
